Notes from inside a hospital’s data work

I’m Chris Pitcher, a data engineer working inside a hospital. This blog is where I write about the practical details of that job, from building data pipelines to understanding what the data is meant to represent.

Why I write

Sharing the work behind the data

Much of data engineering in a hospital is about understanding what the data needs to represent, not just moving it from one place to another. I write to explain those details clearly and honestly.

Privacy comes first. I keep sensitive hospital and patient information out of every post and focus on the practical reasoning, the trade-offs, and what I have learned along the way.

If you want to see how this work plays out day to day, the recent notes are the best place to start.
